App Design for Sfara Guardian 1.0

UX UI & Motion Design for Safety Protection App

Overview

Sfara Guardian Version 1.0 is a safety app that uses mobile motion sensors to provide 4D situation awareness protection to averaging smart phone users. I was brought onto the team as the sole UI UX designer to create the user flow, wireframe, guide the art direction of the visual, motion design of Sfara's Consumer Safety App, and provide user experience advice of interface design from beginning to end.

Wireframing and User Flows

Design philosophy: We wanted the user to gain immediate access to three main featurs in the app, they are: 1) Crash Detection 2) Manual Emergency SOS access and 3) Safety Checkpoint. Our goal for Version 1.0 is to keep it simple to highlight all the major functions, also act as a template for adding additional features for later versions. The three major functions the home screen needed to include: 1) crash protection: allowing user accessing sphere of safety to enable crash protection when the user is in a car accident 2) Allow user to access SOS (emergency response service) feature instantly, and 3) allow user to set timer to trigger SOS in a predefined time frame.

Challenges:The initial design included Coach Mark at sign up for first time users. However, making sure the proper permission incorporated comply with app store guideline, at the same time avoid overwhelming user with lengthing onboarding process has presented a challenge during development. The onboarding user flow had to include three different types of users to compensate all scenarios, include 1) initial sign up, 2) return users who has already login, and 3)return users who has deleted the app and return to restore purchase. The originial onboarding process was cumbersome for the first time user at the initial stage. We decided to abandon the 7-8 screens of Coach Mark at the initial sign up, and instead tucked the Tutorial under Settings to train the user on key features.
